Creating a visually aesthetic bullet journal doesn't have to be tough, and once you know the primary elements to aim for, then that'll help you on your journaling journey. Ideally, you'll be moved to give some of these concepts a shot because you'll recognize some aspect of yourself in it.

Make use of pastel highlighters and pens to add some soft hues to your diary. Pastel sticky notes are extremely beautiful too!

1. Make Use of Pastels

When working on your bullet journal, you might include pastel hues to your layouts, however only if you feel this will work in your notebook. If you're not a fan of the pastel style, you can always go for brighter, more colorful hues also that said!

I would suggest lemon yellows, sky blues, and delicate pinks, as these pastel tones would look wonderful in any diary!

I've also put some pastel color inspiration in the image below, so you can get a sense for the types of pastel colors that work well together, or to take some inspiration for your own bullet journal too.

You could use pastel highlighters, add sticky notes, and other stickers in order to accomplish this style. There are various options for you to pick from, so make sure to have a look at all of them! For example, you can search for the "pastel aesthetic" on buying sites, and several kits will be returned with pastel bullet journalling supplies. Or, if you want to manufacture your own, simply try looking for pastel highlighters and pens in your local art supplies store. Adding pastel highlights is fantastic for Spring and Summer bullet journal spreads, including April and May! Since cherry blossoms are in full bloom throughout May, pastel pink spreads would look great!

You may find more pastel designs on Pinterest, where you can also choose to follow the boards in order to be inspired in the future. One Pinterest board that I adore is this one, which focuses on the most attractive layouts out there including pastel layouts. In my opinion, a bullet journal layout can be much improved by the use of soft, pastel colors.

It's always worth it to see what's possible on Pinterest; that's where I get most of my ideas. If you're wanting to imitate various doodles and the like, some pins even include video tutorials.

Doodlings You Could Put in Your Notebook
There are a number of methods to include pastel highlights into an artistic journal.

Using watercolor to give your journal's header a soft, pastel tone is just one example of how you may personalize your writing space. You might even, if you have the time, experiment with watercolor painting, as seen by the beautiful flower in the following example.

Sticky notes in pastel tones look great scattered around a journal. These are also incredibly important when you need to add indexes to pages, since you can easily keep track of where everything is likewise. I've supplied an example of adorable, pastel sticky notes and index tabs in the image above, for inspiration!

2. Make Use of Gradients

There has been a significant increase in the use of gradients by both websites and social media influencers worldwide in the past year, with both mesh gradients and radial gradients seeing widespread use. Why not add some gradients to your site for a stylish touch?

Try taking a look at some of the example gradients below. There are various gradient generators out there to assist you make your own gradients too, you can then print these off and cut them into strips to add borders to your diary pages. Or you could cut them into squares, and create gradient collages also. Your only restriction is your own creativity.

3. incorporate some pastel photographs

Pastel images are wonderful for producing aesthetic journals, since they may generate beautiful sensations of calmness and tranquillity. Take a look at the photographs below, and you'll see what I mean! Any notebook would benefit from the addition of pastel images, which have a soft, calming effect.

Unsplash is one place you may go to obtain photographs that you can use and print without spending a dime. However, if you're looking for photographs on other sites, you should make sure you have the photographer's permission to use the photo before printing it. Therefore, I suggest using free image hosting services like Unsplash and Pixabay.

From peaceful clouds to delectable macarons, there is no shortage of pastel-hued items you could photograph. Sunsets, gradient-inspired photos, and quiet beaches can certainly look wonderful too.

How to Locate Beautiful Pastel Images
Many online stationery stores, like those found on Etsy, provide inexpensive "journalling packs" that include gorgeous photographs that can be added to your journal without the hassle of printing them off. I've always been a fan of these packs, as I could just start utilizing them instantly.

When you print your own, you have complete control over the final product, but it can be helpful to know where you can find similar photos if the need arises.

4. Add Cute Stickers

Cute and imaginative stickers will always look beautiful, no matter where you place them! However these days you aren't just confined to conventional stickers, there are all types of themed stickers available from vintage stickers to artistic planets and everything-in-between. These stickers are sold in craft stores and on Etsy, among other places. Several Instagram accounts and websites also offer stationery giveaways, which provide everyone with a chance to get some free sticker sets or supplies. One account that does this is Stationery Weekly, but there are lots of them out there. I thought I'd bring it up because it's a great chance to stock up on bullet journaling supplies like stickers and paper.

See an example below of some gorgeous watercolor stickers of ice lollies. They'd be perfect for a summer-themed diary entry, in my opinion. These stickers would be a terrific way to give your journal entries a splash of unique style, and the watercolor element is a nice, pleasant bonus.

5. Try Brush Lettering

Many bullet journallers over the globe have been adopting brush lettering as part of their journaling habit, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try! While it can take a little amount of time to properly learn the skill of brush lettering, once you have it mastered (and it gets much easier once you've practiced a bit!), you'll be well on your way to adding stunning headers and artistic titles to your journal.

You might add brush lettering titles to your diary pages for example, and the lettering will truly make your layout stand out!

6. Make Use of Highlighters

You'd be shocked at how much of an impact a little bit of highlighting can have in your journal. An easy way to add some enchantment to your journal layout is to highlight specific words in a pastel highlighter. Or you may write the title in highlighter too, as demonstrated in the image below.

You may purchase pastel highlighters in stationery shops, as well as conventional supermarkets these days too, since they are growing popularity over the world! If you can't locate them, then you can also try looking in online shops on Etsy or on Amazon also, they're widely available online so you're likely to find a shop that ships to your nation hopefully! If pastels aren't your thing, ordinary markers are another option; there's a huge range of lettering styles to explore, and I've only scratched the surface here.

7. Try Theming

Developing aesthetically pleasing notebook layouts that adhere to a key theme is of paramount importance. While many pages don't have to have a central subject per se, it might still assist to have a few pages here and there which represent a single concept. Plus, it's a whole lot of fun too, and isn't really confining your originality either, but it does help in making the visual appeal a whole lot more coherent!

A theme can be as simple as working with geometric patterns on one page, then generating a pleasant, fruity vibe on the next page. It's all up to your imagination, of course! One of my fave topics is developing the pastel look, like demonstrated above!

Other topics can include:

Cosmos, star systems, and star charts
Stripes, polka dots, and geometric patterns
Spring, flowery designs
Vintage travel
The list goes on! Remember, you're only limited by your imagination!

8. Add Washi Tape

Washi tape may be a terrific addition to your bullet journal too. I prefer to add washi tape to the edges of my pages, in order to give them a touch of enchantment! Geometric polka dots and other geometric designs frequently look amazing, but I'm also a major lover of watercolor washi tapes too. Put to use any and every washi tape you may possess, and feel free to let your imagination run wild! For examples of attractive washi tapes you may make use of, I've located this fantastic resource on aesthetic washi tapes which outlines some of the nicest washi tapes out there. It's also a resource I turn to when I want to expand my collection of washi tapes.

This post on washi tape ideas only scratches the surface of the many possible applications for this versatile product. You can do so much with it as a crafting medium; I know I'll continue to enjoy using it in my planners and bullet notebooks for many years to come.

You might try adding charming handwriting or calligraphy in styles like those above! They add for a beautiful touch!

9. Mix highlighted text with cursive script

For some added inspiration, try out this interesting combo which you may use for your journal headings and titles.

If you want to make use of your cursive handwriting in your diary, add a title (the month, a category, etc.) and then highlight the word with a pastel highlighter. It's one of my favourite techniques, and it always looks wonderful!

You can see an example below, with the months of the year and cute highlights applied to them. I think the style has potential, and these month titles would look great in any bullet journal. Highlight the text with pastel highlighters, or try out some other pastel color combinations. However, ballpoints won't smear like gel pens will, so use one of those instead. Or you could try using a brush pen too, and then painting over gently with a watercolor also!

Best Ways to Create an Aesthetic Bullet Journal
Here are some of the most effective methods for designing a beautiful bullet journal.

Pastels can generate sentiments of relaxation and tranquillity, and they genuinely embody such a gorgeous look overall.

Try using washi tape for extra impact. Washi tape is a versatile crafting tape that never leaves any trace; consider using it on the borders of your bullet journal pages, or as highlights to particular sections of pages also.
