Should I store my fountain pen up or down?

Should I store my fountain pen up or down?

When you store your pens in the appropriate manner, you may avoid a range of issues, such as the pens drying out or unwelcome ink stains and markings appearing on fabric.

The good news is that it is simple to store pens in a way that will promote a long life and few complications. The bad news is that the ideal storage option differs for each kind of writing instrument, therefore we will break it down for you below.

How to properly organize your ballpoint pens

The turquoise-colored ballpoint pen is a Guilloche model by Graf von Faber-Castell.

Because the ink in ballpoint pens is thick and oil-based, ballpoints should be placed vertically with the tip pointed downwards. For this reason, a pen pot is an excellent choice; they are available in a wide variety of forms and sizes to complement your workplace and décor.

Is sketchbook paper good for fountain pens?

If you store ballpoint pens in this manner, you won't have to worry about them drying out, and you won't have to worry about leaks, since the heavier, slower-moving ink will be available at the tip when you need it.

Before putting your ballpoint pen away for storage, make sure that if it has a cap or a retractable lid, you always put the cap back on or retract the lid. These features are there for a purpose.

How to properly organize your rollerball pens

Because rollerball pens use an ink that is water-based rather than solid, they must be kept in an upside-down posture. Ballpoint pens, on the other hand, use solid ink.

When stored on their sides, rollerballs have a lower risk of leaking or drying out as compared to when they are stored in either of the vertical positions (tip-up or tip-down).

Remember to replace the cap that is provided after each use to help prevent the product from becoming dry.

Tips for properly storing gel pens

In order to stop ink from leaking out of gel pens, they should be kept in a vertical position with the nib pointing upwards.

On the other hand, they may be placed horizontally in pencil cases without causing too much of a problem.

If you use your gel pens on a regular basis, storing them in a pencil case should be OK; otherwise, we suggest vertical storage so that you can prevent any problems.

When a gel pen has been kept vertically, it may take around thirty seconds for the ink to start flowing again before it can be used again.

Always ensure that the caps are replaced after usage.

Instructions for storing fountain pens

The easiest way to avoid leaks from fountain pens is to keep them in a horizontal position, whether that be in a pen case, presentation case, shelf, or drawer.

It is also a good idea to clean your fountain pen before putting it away for storage if you don't plan to use it for at least two weeks after putting it away. If you don't clean your fountain pen before putting it away, you run the risk of having problems with the pen becoming dry when you try to use it again.

Take a look at our article on "How to Revive a Dry Fountain Pen" on our site if you have recently pulled a fountain pen out of storage and discovered that it is dry.

After using a fountain pen, the cap should always be changed as soon as possible. This is something that should go without saying.

How to properly organize your highlighters

Because highlighters have fiber tips, the easiest way to keep them to avoid dryness is to stand them up vertically with the tip facing down.

Always be sure to put the cap back on after you've used it.

How to properly organize your brush pens

Even though many types of ink may be used in brush pens, the safest way to keep them is horizontally, since this won't have any negative impact on the quality of the ink.

When put on their sides, double-ended brush pens like the Tombow ABT dual brush pens may benefit greatly from having ink flow to both ends of the pen. This is made possible by storing the pens in an upright position.

It is especially easy to forget to replace the lids on pens that are used for art for extended periods of time. If you make it a habit to replace the lids on your art pens as soon as you are finished using them, you will spend less money on new art supplies because you won't need to do so as frequently.
